Printer Inks Are Inks Manufactured

By: Mecky Giroth

Printer inks are inks manufactured especially for printers. The quality of printing depends on the type of ink, type of paper and the type of printer used. The quality of ink is reflected in the quality of the final product.

Printer ink is made from a combination of dyes or pigments, distilled surfactants, de-ionized water, biocides and fungicides, buffering agents, humectants and resins. These combinations ensure that the ink produced matches the quality specification of OEM ink. Dye or pigment of a particular type and quantity is used, and the surfactant helps in balancing the paper wetting and surface tension. Resins ensure paper adhesions and humectants minimize evaporation.

Printer inks are either dye based or pigment based. Dye based inkjet inks are brighter in color and can produce sharp quality printing. Since the drying time is long they often tend to blur. On the other hand pigment inkjet inks are light, fast, waterproof and fade resistant. They also dry much faster than the dye based ink and are more suited for color ink as they prevent blurring. They also have lower toxicity levels than dye-based ink. One of the major goals of the inkjet ink manufacturers is to develop ink that is durable, fade resistant, and waterproof and has the ability to print on any media.

unaware that the refilling of a printer cartridge helps to preserve the environment by reusing existing resources. The growing demand for printing products and the subsequent demand for refilling make a cartridge refill franchise an excellent business opportunity.

Refill Printer Cartridges: A High Growth Market

Recycling or refilling of cartridges can significantly reduce landfill waste originating from cartridges and their components, such as steel, aluminum, plastic and oil. Moreover, the refilling of a cartridge leads to significant cost savings for the printer user. The cost of a new cartridge is extremely high and original equipment manufacturers are making huge money out of it. Refilling can be done at a cost that is nearly 50% lower than buying a new cartridge. So, the scope for the expansion of sale of refill products and services is significant.

The Expansion of Cartridge Refill Franchise Networks

The cartridge refill franchise network has expanded rapidly over the years in view of the surge in demand for refill kits and refill services. Growing awareness about the benefits of refilling printer cartridge has led to spike in the segment and the expansion of the cartridge refill franchise network.

A cartridge retail franchise needs to tie up with a reputed cartridge products and accessories supplier. The team at cartridge refill franchise has to undergo some coaching and training sessions held by the franchisor. These training sessions involve coaching about inks, toners, printers and the correct way to fill ink and toner cartridges. A cartridge refill franchise is also constantly updated with the latest technology and the products introduced in the cartridge refilling segment.

Many buyers look to third-party vendors who sell compatible cartridges, remanufactured cartridges, refills for customer’s cartridges and do-it-yourself inkjet refill kits.

Refilling empty cartridges with third-party vendor ink is the cheapest alternative to replacing empty cartridges. Most of the cartridges can be refilled with printer ink specific to the brand model, provided the model number and the serial number of the cartridge is known. There can be repeated refills possible. The number of times a cartridge can be refilled depends upon certain factors. The other alternative is to refill the cartridge at home with a do-it-yourself inkjet refill kit. These kits come packaged with a syringe, bottles of printer ink for multiple refills, essential tools and instructions. While refilling color ink cartridges, care should be taken to see that the colors do not get mixed up. Unlike black printer ink cartridges, color ink cartridges require three or sometimes four types of color ink to be refilled, and so separate injectors must be used for each type.

Repeated refilling causes the cartridge to wear out and eventually become unusable. In cases where microchips are integrated with the cartridges, the printer either refuses to accept the third-party refilled cartridge, or works with diminished functions.

Spurious inks give substandard prints and damage the printers.

Those of us who have a computer in our homes often have a printer on which to print the myriad of projects that have made computer ownership so necessary; business reports and graphs, school projects, shopping receipts, and pictures to name a few. Today’s printers are compact, efficient, affordable, and easy to use, and subsequently have found great popularity in the modern world. However, along with printer ownership and use comes the necessity of the ink cartridge refill.

The ink cartridge houses separate compartments in which different color inks are lodged. Also included within the compartments are small metal receptors that communicate with the partnering computer. When a print command is received, the metal receptors heat thus warming the ink and allowing it to drip onto the paper beneath. Most often, when printer ink runs low or runs out completely, the ink is replaced through an ink cartridge refill.

There are a variety of reputable companies where you can find ink cartridge refill products based upon your particular need. Large office or computer supply stores will more than likely have the ink cartridge refill that is needed by your printer. With smaller, privately owned supply stores, you’ll often find your ink cartridge refill at a reduced price. Additionally, customer service may be more personalized at these smaller locations.

Ordering an ink cartridge refill on a regular basis often requires little more than the click of your mouse.

Online outlets, much like traditional stores, will often offer guaranteed products, warranties, competitive prices, and excellent customer service. No matter where you purchase your ink cartridge refill be sure to stay on top of the need. If you are able to stay one step ahead of your ink supply, you’ll increase your productivity and save money going forward.

Choosing To Use Refill Ink

When it comes to choosing to use refilled ink cartridges in an inkjet printer, there are both positive and negative aspects to be considered. Manufacturers claim that your warranty will be voided and your printer damaged by using cartridges that have been refilled.
Consider the pros and cons of using refill ink.

Refill ink costs quite a bit less than a new ink cartridge, and after you need new ink several times, this can add up to a substantial savings.
Using refill ink will also allow you to recycle your ink cartridge and thereby help the environment, besides saving you money.
Another advantage of refill ink is the availability. If you keep a refill kit on hand, it won’t matter when your cartridge runs out - you can just refill it. The actual process of refilling your printer’s ink can be a bit difficult and if something goes wrong you might have problems printing after refilling. Since printer manufacturers want you to buy their ink, they intentionally design cartridges that are not easy to refill.
Air bubbles can form in the ink which can translate to splotchy printing. The refill process can also be messy, with spilled ink being a common problem. Ink stains are next to impossible to remove so you want to be sure you’re not wearing good clothes or working over carpet when refilling your cartridge.
Lastly, the manufacturer’s warranty on your printer can be cancelled out through the use of refill ink.
